Once upon an eternity, the almighty Sun King carves a magic flute, which keeps the Queen of the Night’s evil aggression in check with its sweet tones. Determined to eliminate the relentless violence that dominates the Human world, he sets out to create a new society devoted to peace, forgiveness and brotherhood. Taking on the new name of Sarastro, he abdicates his throne and gives all of his possessions to the Queen, except for one: the Sphere of Seven Suns, a device of unimaginable power, which he keeps for himself.
In an attempt to take possession of the Sphere of Seven Suns, and to destroy Sarastro in the process, the Queen of the Night enlists the help of Prince Tamino, to whom she promises her daughter, Pamina, in marriage. She even forces the comical bird-man, Papageno, to join the quest. As they encounter fantastical creatures and face dangerous trials, the story takes a surprising turn, resulting in the creation of a new world order.
Composed shortly before his death, Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) is undeniably an operatic masterpiece combining elements from various fairy tales with the Age-of-Enlightenment philosophies of Freemasonry. Reimagining this classic in a futuristic, technologically advanced world, this rendition is ideal for audiences of all ages to enjoy!
Sung in German with dialogue in English and Chinese/English surtitles
